peter-cruseDr Peter Cruse is a former South African national medical Rhodes Scholar to Oxford University, Chief Specialist Pathologist at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, UCT Professor of Anatomical Pathology and MBA gold medallist. He is now an experienced commercial manager of multi-site hospitals, clinics and medical laboratories. He is a true “company doctor” capable of inspiring and leading rapid financial turnarounds of underperforming healthcare assets. His speciality is rapid performance enhancement. Focused on producing strongly positive EBITDA in excess of 20% by marketing-driven top-line revenue growth, Peter combines “hands on” charismatic leadership with surgically precise cost-cutting, lean methodology, productivity and efficiency gains. He rigorously uses data, dashboards, MIS, ICT and technology rather than simply employing more people to improve company performance.

As a UK-trained Specialist Histopathologist with an MBA and over thirty years of practical clinical and business management experience, the career of Dr Cruse has successfully combined clinical patient service with senior hospital, departmental and transformational business team leadership positions. He has led or worked in complex multi-site healthcare institutions in both the public and private sectors in five countries. He has extensive, full-time private equity experience of both investment fund raising and deal making. This has included simultaneous start-ups of multiple polyclinics, green-field new hospital builds as well as ongoing management of large multi-site healthcare organisations.

Among other senior healthcare positions he has held in the UAE, Peter was Group Chief Medical Officer and Interim CEO of Welcare Hospital, helped to raise the investment funding to create Emirates Healthcare (owned jointly by Varkey Group, GE healthcare and Mediclinic) to build and commission City Hospital; He was the founding Director of Clinical Affairs for Emaar Healthcare and was CEO of Clinical Pathology Services LLC and Executive director of Crescent Enterprises, Part of Crescent Petroleum. He is currently CEO of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) in DHCC Dubai, UAE which sees over 20,000 patients a year , of which 30% of are medical tourists from GCC, MENA and Europe

Peter is passionate about the low-tech, affordable natural, holistic, integrated and preventive approach to healthcare as opposed to the conventional curative high-tech model. His PhD studied the links between diet and colon cancer and he published a paper in Nature aged 27 as first author proving the causative link between dietary cholesterol in animals with colon cancer. He is currently running AACSH -a unique specialist hospital devoted to health, beauty and wellness. Peter also grows healthcare professionals and provides principled healthcare leadership and mentoring. He has coached and mentored several healthcare professionals through MBA’s locally and has mentored many protégés who are now in senior healthcare leadership positions in the GCC and elsewhere.
